Fiona, "The Dasher"

Name: Fiona Breed: Papillion First Time at Sanctuary: 10/24/16 Description: Fiona has made a name for herself running along the borders of the Darkness and the Scorching Desert serving as a faithful scout for the Oak. Seen as little more than a flash of black and white, some have reported a Marshmellow bouncing along the border and whispering to the trees. It's been rumored she has been running that border for more than eight cycles without stopping. On the fourth level of the Oak stands a carving of Fiona racing to stop a group of squirrels from crossing into the Darkness.

Autumn, "The Leaf"

Name: Autumn Breed: Australian Cattle Dog First Time at Sanctuary: 08/05/19 Description: Autumn's fall like coat makes it easy for her to blend in with the piles of leaves covering the forest of the Land of the Oak. In the days after the fall of Sanctuary, the forest was a littered with dogs lost and confused. This mattered not for Autumn who had the time of her life running from one hiding spot to the next. She would bide her time and then jump out just as a group of dogs passed by to scare them. Everyone in the forest could hear her giggles as she drifted around the woods blending in with the new fall colors.

Dora & Luna "The Giving"

Name: Dora & Luna Breed: German Shepherd & Husky First time at Sanctuary: 06/13/2010 Description: When Dora & Luna were at Sanctuary they became known as generous and giving dogs. Helping any dog who needed in any way they could. After the Fall of Sanctuary Dora & Luna continued these deeds as they helped many animals in the Land of the Oak. No matter what kind of animal may need help Dora & Luna will do whatever it takes to help. They once rescued a bear cub from going into the Eternal Desert and asked for no reward in return except that the bears help maintain the peace in the Land of the Oak. Another time they helped save two birds who had just fallen out of their nest and in return, the birds promised to be Dora & Luna's eyes and ears all throughout the Land of the Oak. It's said whenever an animal is in need all they need to do is ask a songbird of the forest for help and Dora or Luna will arrive. Dora Luna

Dog Profile Hanna "The Seer's Seer"

Name: Hanna Breed: Terrier Mix First time at Sanctuary: 02/10/2017 Description:  Hanna wandered the Land of the Oak lost until she met a blind dog named Harriet. Hanna and Harriet became quick friends as Harriet would teach Hanna about the Land of the Oak and in return, Hanna would serve as Harriets eyes. Hanna is best known in her role in getting Harriet to the  “Coast of Darkness” where they currently reside just outside the Land of the Oak. As Harriet’s guide in the physical world Hanna has been called as the “Seer’s seer”.

Name: Harriet Breed: Lab mix First time at Sanctuary: 02/10/2017 Description: Harriet is known as the “Seer” as she has been given a gift to foresee the future though this was at the cost of her eyesight. It has proved invaluable to many adventurers of the Land of the Oak and beyond. At her side is her faithful companion Hanna who guards and guides her in their home off the Coast of Darkness. Harriet is the only dog in the history of the Land of the Oak to be able to walk every path unencumbered and completely safe as no creature dare to harm the “Seer”. 

Dog Profile Cash "Thunder Brother"

Name: Cash Breed: Lab Mix First time at Sanctuary: 04/11/2017 Description:  Cash and his brother Murphy have made the iconic duo called, “The Thunder Brothers.” Due to their howls which are louder than any thunder anyone has ever heard. After the fall of Sanctuary Cash found himself alone and chased by a wild boar until he happened to run into Murphy who was also running away from a different wild boar. The two immediately began their howling and the boars fled in terror. Since then the two have stuck close by each other.

Name: Murphy Breed: Lab Mix First time at Sanctuary: 02/05/2011 Description: Murphy spent over fifty years building Sanctuary up. He was there for the last of the “glory days”, till the fall of Sanctuary. Once in the Land of the Oak, he found himself being chased by a wild boar when he came across his younger brother Cash. They began to howl and it sounded as if the sky would collapse around them which made the boars flee in fear. Cash and Murphy were known throughout the land as the “Thunder Brothers” before the fall of Sanctuary but their legend has not stopped growing since they have come to the Land of the Oak

Dog Profile Hugo "Bearer of bad news"

Name: Hugo Breed: Dalmatian First time at Sanctuary: 10/23/2018 Description:  Hugo was on vacation to visit his cousin, Opal, when the fall of Sanctuary occurred. Since then he has been accompanying his cousin and acting as her pupil. He has learned the ways of the Oak and become an influential member of the dogs of the Land of the Oak. In the early days it was Hugo who drove back a family of bears to save a half a dozen puppies thus earning his nick name, “Bearer of bad news”.

Name: Dagney Breed: Mastiff First time at Sanctuary: 04/17/2018 Description: Dagney may be as large as a bear but is still a pup at heart and because of this she brings a refreshing perspective in a land  so many cynical creatures call home. Where others see a herd of cats waiting to pounce on them Dagney sees a bundle of friends who can’t wait to play a rousing game of tag.  Where one might see bear tracks and look to avoid a rather uncomfortable situation with such a large and intimidating creature Dagney sees a lonely friend wanting to play hide and seek. The other dogs have come to call her “Dagney the Bull” because she runs head first into just about every situation without pause.

Dog Profile Santana "The Enduring"

Name: Santana Breed: Husky mix First time at Sanctuary: 08/10/2015 Description: While Santana’s brother Frodo is renowned for his scouting ability Santana has been making a name for himself through his strength and clever planning. Most famously was the time he took nearly two dozen cats on a trip through the forest and led them straight into the scorching desert, never to be seen or heard from again. It’s said he ran over one hundred miles that day and didn’t pant even once. Since then he has been seen helping his brother to thwart the birds of the Plains of Rot from capturing animals of all kinds. Dogs from the Land of the Oak have come to call him, “Santana the Enduring”. 

Dog Profile Frodo "The Slick"

Name: Frodo Breed: Boxer First time at Sanctuary: 02/11/2013 Description:  Frodo and his brother Santana served well as scouts for Sanctuary and have been instrumental in helping to map the Land of the Oak for the dogs who are currently trapped there. Frodo has personally walked all the paths from the shed to the Plains of Rot and confronted the menacing birds who claim that land numerous times. He has also saved many dogs from walking into various traps set by the birds and cats, as such he has earned himself the nickname, “Frodo the slick”.

Dog Profile Buddy, "Hojan's Shadow"

Name: Buddy Breed: Lab Mix First time at Sanctuary: 05/02/2017 Description: Buddy was one of the first dogs rescued after the fall of Sanctuary. He ran headfirst into a trap set by the birds in the Plains of Rot and was nearly captured by them until Hojan, Frodo, and Santana came in to save him. Since that time he has followed Hojan faithfully and as such he has been called “Hojan’s Shadow” as he is always close to where Hojan is.

Dog Profile Kelcy "Desert Queen"

Name: Kelcy Breed: Queensland mix First time at Sanctuary: 10/11/2017 Description: After the fall of Sanctuary Kelcy and a small group of other dogs who had found themselves in the Scorching Desert began to make a home near one of the Oasis’. She and her group of cattle herding partners created, as best they could, a safe place for the dogs of Sanctuary to stay. They are still searching for a way out of the Desert and back to the Oak, where they belong. She is revered as the “Desert Queen” by her people. 

Dog Profile Bonnie "Mother of Bailey"

Name: Bonnie Breed: Corgi First time at Sanctuary: 08/14/2018 Description: Bonnie’s time at Sanctuary was short but her accomplishments will live on until the Oak itself wilts away. Being the first dog to establish an effective and peaceful relationship with the Elephants she was instrumental in forming the original alliance between the two species as well as helping the elephants in taking their present homeland. She is the mother of Bailey, “Corgi of the Giants” who lives among the elephants in the Land of the Oak to this day.

Breed: Corgi First time at Sanctuary: 08/13/2018 Description: Bailey has been described as a “plucky” and “high energy” dog who is best known for her courageous adventures in the land of the Oak. Especially with her elephant companions, having corralled and ridden many elephants with her mother, Bonne, she has earned the title, “Corgi of the Giants"she is often seen with her elephant companions in their new home in the land of the Oak. Where she is an intermediary between dog and elephant kind.

Dog Profile: Storm

                              Dog Profile: Name: Storm      Breed: Lab Mix First Time at Sanctuary: 5/29/15  Last Time at Sanctuary: 6/10/17 Description: Although Storm was only a part of Sanctuary for 14 years her impact has left an indelible mark on the community. While she never held any position at Sanctuary she was a three-time Great Race champion as well as the only dog allowed to venture into the place beyond the shed alone. Her courage and bravery has been proven time and time again as she, famously, was the first to find the golden tennis ball before losing it on a trail to a couple of cats and a wild boar they had wrangled. It has been said that once all our days are counted Storm will sit atop the highest points of the Great Oak.

Dog Profile: Opal

Name: Opal Breed: Dalmatian First time at Sanctuary: 3/3/16 Description: You wouldn’t be able to tell by looking at her, but Opal is a relatively new addition to Sanctuary. Being voted into the council in the past 5 years her calming presence was immediately felt and soon she became a moderator between the big and small dogs. She helped solve many debates, including the famous ‘Who’s ball is it anyway’ debate between Charles and Bubba.

Dog Profile: Strider

Name: Strider Breed: Border Collie First time at Sanctuary: 4/11/08 Description: Strider is one of the oldest members of the Sanctuary community and an influential member of it too. Strider can often be found teaching advanced tracking classes to the younger dogs, retelling the history of Sanctuary and the place beyond the shed. Strider is one of the only dogs at Sanctuary who is allowed to travel into the place beyond the shed by herself. It is said that Strider is the only dog to leave the path in the dark forest and make it back to Sanctuary to tell the tale. Strider appears in the short story “Puppy Training”

Dog Profile: Bailey

Name: Bailey      Breed: German Shepard First time at Sanctuary: 7/6/2010 Description: Bailey is one of the oldest dogs at Sanctuary and is also the head scout. As such she is responsible for setting up not only the groups that go out to the place beyond the shed but also when and where they go. Bailey has held the title of Head Scout the longest, doing it now for 21 of her years. Despite her immense size, Bailey is a lover, not a fighter. She was recently elected to the council unanimously and during her inauguration was quoted saying "Let peace and prosperity reign over Sanctuary and let the summer stay far far away." Bailey appears in “The Raddest Gift” and “Puppy Training” and "Signs and Shadows"

Dog Profile: Bella

Name: Bella         Breed: Yorkshire terrier First time at Sanctuary: 11/29/11 Description: Bella has been a pillar of the Sanctuary community since her first days here. She is the longest sitting member of the council, having held her seat for over 30 years. In her time on the council Sanctuary has seen unprecedented growth having our members reach out and become involved in numerous other sanctuaries across the country. Bella has become most famous for her snarky attitude and quick wit, as one dog put it “I wouldn’t advise anyone telling her no.” as he whimpered away from Bella after insisting she was not a “big dog”.
