Chapter Three: A Rotten Idea

Chapter Three   A Rotten Idea Atrix cocked his head to one side, “The where?”   I began to trot off towards the Plains and turned my head slightly so I could talk back to him while keeping a keen eye on the road. After all, if he got through to this place, there’s no telling what else could have as well. “The Plains of Rot. All that’s lost turns up in the Plains of Rot. That’s what they say at least.”  Atrix followed quietly for a moment with his head down. He was finally able to ask, “ Who says?”  I perked up one of my ears before saying, “Well you know, the dogs who tell the stories.”  Atrix shook his head. “How would I know that? I’m a fox!”  “Well, I suppose that’s true. What stories were you told then?” Before he could respond, we heard a crashing through the woods as a monstrous animal was heading straight towards us. I spun around, grabbed Atrix’s scruff and dove behind a bush a foot or two off the path. Just as we hit the ground, we saw nearly a dozen gigan

Chapter Two: Storms Story

Chapter Two Storm’s Story:        A Fox’s Delight          I finally got Atrix, the fox pup who had stumbled upon me, to agree to come with me. He would be safer somewhere I could keep an eye on him rather than wandering the woods all alone.            “Do you remember where this cave was, Atrix?”  He nodded his head and pointed to a small path forged by the rabbits and other small rodents of the forest. “That path will lead us to it,” he said. I nodded my head and playfully nudged him towards it, “Well , let's go back to the cave and see what we can find. What do you say?”  He began shaking with excitement and nodding his head.  “What can you tell me about your pack, Atrix?”  He looked up at me; he had these bright orange eyes, just like Hojan’s. “Well, there’s mum and pop, of course. They are the slyest foxes you’ve ever seen. They can sneak right into a coop and steal every egg without ever being noticed. Then, there’s my big sister and she is the fiercest creatur

Book Two Chapter One: Questions

Image
Chapter One: Questions We sat in a dark room - Hojan and myself.  A door creaked open, and through it walked a massive Shepherd we both knew all too well. Bailey.   The room was dimly lit by a skylight that seemed to hang miles above our heads, forming a small cone around the two of us.  Whenever one of us would move, the light would follow as if the Oak itself was casting a wary eye on us. Vines from the ground had sprung up, forcing us to sit still.  The walls around us mimicked the tree we were in, but the bark was black and looked like cold steel rather than the wood I was accustomed to seeing. Bailey walked up to us, and even in the darkness, I could feel the disappointment and anger washing off of her thick coat. “What did you fools do?” “We saved them,” Hojan muttered, his eyes ablaze with the same orange color as his coat.   Bailey huffed and then turned to me. “Storm, tell me what you did.” She wasn’t asking. I looked over at Hojan who stayed still; his eyes

Prologue Part Five - A corgi, a husky, and malamute walk through a forest

Cody arrived at the top of the ramp to see thick branches covering the entrance to the top of the Oak. He heard hushed voices whispering and strained to hear what they were saying, “We know you’re there” a voice called out and the branches parted. A wolf and Bailey were both staring at Cody, the other wolves were still on the edges of the Oak, watching every corner of the land. Cody walked in and bowed his head before the wolf. The wolf came and greeted Cody before turning back to the conversation, “What would you have us do?” The wolf asked Bailey. Bailey walked over to the edge of the Oak, overlooking the clearing, “We have to drive them out.”     Cody shook his head, “We can’t do that.” The wolf turned his attention to Cody, “And why would that be?” He asked whilst narrowing his eyes. Cody met the wolfs stare with a defiant look of his own, “It’s not the way of the Oak.” Bailey scoffed, “We aren’t at Sanctuary anymore and it’s not like we have a way to let them in.
