Chapter Seven: A Corgi's Chance

“I can’t believe she would do that!” Hojan yelled.  “She is protecting her own, wouldn’t you do the same?” I asked.  He shook his head, “She’s not even considering what’s best for the group! Bailey is all she cares about.”  I nodded slowly, carefully considering my words, “Everyone needs someone who cares for them like that.”  He stopped pacing around the entrance and shot me the same glare he gave to her. “Everyone needs to learn how to fend for themselves. You can’t rely on others to help you when you need it most.”  “I’d like to believe you can. That’s why we’re doing all this for Atrix, and then we’re going to go and save all those dogs from the Scorching Desert. Right?”  Hojan huffed, “We’ll save Thomas.” The other dogs from the group began to approach, we formed into our teams and set out into the forest. It seemed like we were there in no time at all.  “Is everyone ready?” I asked the team as they nodded their heads. Some more confident than others but all in ag

Chapter Six: Desperation

“Are you sure this is going to work, Storm?” Buddy murmured as we approached the Towers.  “C’mon, they’re just birds. How smart can they be?” Dagney asked.  “They may be small, but they are some of the most cunning opponents you will ever face.” I told her sternly as I continued, “When Frodo and Santana were taking me to you, we saw a group of elephants run through the Plains. They knocked down the towers and were harassing the birds pretty well, but eventually the birds got the best of them and—” I paused for a moment. “And what?”  Buddy stopped and pointed with his nose, “They did that.”  We turned looking to see the trunk and tusks of an elephant protruding out of a tower of trash. It wasn’t moving but the grey stuck out unnaturally in contrast with the amorphous blob it was crammed in. Dagney lowered her head and whispered, “Oh.” Her voice trailed off as she stared at the sunken elephant, “So that could be us?” She asked.  I nodded, “If we’re not careful that would be

Chapter Five: An Old Friend

I cocked my head to the side again, and at this point I was getting rather tired of doing this, “You weren’t accepted by the Oak?”  Hojan shook his head, “None of them can even find it. Whenever I try leading them to it they get lost.”  Thirteen chimed in, “We even tried tying rope around a few of them and they just vanished. Fortunately, everyone we took out knew their way back here. We even tried to get eleven to help us.” I straightened my head and looked at Thirteen who’s long brown hair was falling on either side of her shoulders, “Is that how he lost his hand?” I asked.  She shook her head, “No, that’s a different story.”  I shook my head in confusion, “What happened with Eleven? How do you know you aren’t accepted?” Hojan took a deep breath and glanced at Thirteen who leaned over and patted him on the head. “Eleven and I went to the Oak. I was turned away before being let in. They told me I can gaze upon the glory of the Oak, but until I am redeemed I will not be allo

Chapter Four: The Others

Chapter Four: The Others I set off down the path, my feet beating against the cold dirt beneath me. There were three birds on my tail picking and cawing at me. I tilted my head back slightly to yell:  “Leave me be, you foul creatures!”  We continued to run, and the forest came into sight when two dogs leapt out of the trees and began to run towards us. Both were dogs from Sanctuary. A white and brown boxer named Frodo and his grey husky companion Santana. They began barking at the birds who took off in the other direction. Both Frodo and Santana slowed from a run to a walk to greet me, but before they did, I overheard them say, “It seems like it’s getting easier every time ain’t it Santana?”  Santana nodded in agreement and then looked me up and down once before exclaiming: “Well, tie a hot dog to my tail, and let me spin in circles ‘till I fall! Is that you Storm!?”   “It’s been a minute, hasn’t it old friend?” I said enthusiastically.  Santan
